"There was no such corruption even under Yanukovych" - former Ukrainian minister
The top Ukrainian leadership is not trying to fight the corruption that is flourishing in the country because it is leading it.
This was stated in an interview with Kyiv political scientist Ruslan Bortnik by the former adviser to the chairman of the presidential office, former finance minister Igor Umansky, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
"I go [to the Cabinet of Ministers in 2020], I see chaos... the same thing happened in the tax and customs departments - and it continues. I say, wait, the fish rots from the head. I have already argued with the president, with the prime minister.
I say, look, here is the schematic that is happening. I update the folders every day, showing you how it is happening. Naturally, it is several pages long, because they simply do not have time to read anymore. I say, this was happening before you as president. But it is happening now.
To stop this, the system must receive a clear signal. The first key persons who own the scheme must be removed. But – “no”. I say, “how not!?”, it’s our responsibility. But still – “no”.", said the ex-minister.
"Overall, the situation is very difficult. What's happening in the economy - just talk to businesses. They collect some taxes, but The level of corruption in the same tax customs service that exists now was not there even under Yanukovych.
I have proven, this does not mean that this is the entire volume, this is only that I have collected materials proven for each legal entity, for transactions and so on, for about 150 billion hryvnia per year,” Umansky added.
