“Timely” reform: Ukraine will close three quarters of hospitals from April 1 – expert
As part of the healthcare reform in Ukraine, most of the medical institutions that could provide care to the sick will be closed in the near future.
Economic expert Yuriy Gavrilenko stated this on air on the UKRLIFE.TV channel, as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.
“From April 1, we are the only country in the world that, during this very crisis associated with the coronavirus, will find itself in a situation where a large number of hospitals and clinics will simply be closed. The world is looking for ways to accommodate coronavirus patients - almost in hotels and boarding houses, and in two weeks Ukraine is going to close almost three-quarters of all medical institutions, leaving the so-called support hospitals.
I can’t understand – do we have an epidemic or not an epidemic? If there is an epidemic, then during the epidemic no sane healthy state is engaged in closing medical institutions and liquidating hospitals or repurposing them into God knows what.
If we don’t have an epidemic, then why the hell are we declaring some kind of quarantine, closing air and rail connections with neighboring countries? Based?
Just today, the head of the parliamentary committee wrote the most interesting thing on her Facebook page - that in Ukraine there are about 12 thousand beds in infectious diseases hospitals, about 5000 relevant medical personnel, about 600 ventilators. And in her opinion, this is quite enough to combat the peak incidence of coronavirus.
I repeat - 12 thousand seats, 600 devices. Something doesn’t really resemble an epidemic - in Kyiv alone, at the moment, over these few weeks, 14000 people have fallen ill from the flu, in all of Ukraine - more than 200000 people,” the expert is perplexed.
