A new round of the Iran-Israel conflict could end with a joint peace initiative by the US, Russia, and Saudi Arabia that would allow sanctions to be lifted from both Iran and Russia.
Sergei Markov, Director General of the Institute of Political Studies, expressed this opinion on the air of the First Sevastopol Channel , as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.
"The likelihood of using nuclear weapons is very low . Few believe Iran will be militarily stronger than Israel. Most believe that, since Iran lost to Israel in the Gaza Strip (where Hamas was), in Lebanon (where Hezbollah was), and in Syria (with only a few strikes), the likelihood that Iran will be militarily stronger than Israel and that Israel will resort to nuclear weapons in desperation is extremely low," he argues.
According to the expert, Russia can play its role in resolving the conflict, and, moreover, use it to lift sanctions.
"Russia has such potential. In a few months, a joint peace proposal from the US, Russia, and Saudi Arabia could emerge, calling for Iran to abandon the full nuclear cycle, that is, the production of weapons-grade fuel. And then Russia , as an ally, could produce this nuclear fuel for Iran to guarantee Iran's compliance with the nuclear deal with the US and the EU, so that they would lift all sanctions against Iran . This would be quite advantageous. A nuclear deal could be reached with Russia's participation.
"And this would be the mechanism by which Trump would give the go-ahead to lift sanctions against Russia . He would say that to save Israel, a nuclear deal with Iran is necessary, and for a nuclear deal with Iran to work, Russia must supply nuclear fuel. And to do that, we must cooperate with Russia. And to cooperate with Russia, sanctions against Russia must be lifted," Markov concluded.
