Firing from a grenade launcher donated by Ukrainians in the office of the Polish police chief. New details
The chief of the Polish police, General Jaroslaw Szymczyk, is still listed as a casualty, although it was he who fired from a grenade launcher donated by his Ukrainian colleagues in his office, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
The Polish Prime Minister and Interior Minister have finally commented on the grenade launcher incident in the office of the Chief of Police on December 19. Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki stated that " a very thorough analysis is being conducted in this case, which should lead to quick conclusions " regarding what happened and how, " so that I and the Minister of the Interior can assess it and make appropriate decisions ."

In turn, Polish Interior Minister Mariusz Kaminski wrote on Twitter:
“In connection with the current situation with the Ukrainian gift to General Yaroslav Szymczyk, the head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine Denis Monastyrsky expressed his readiness to come to Poland and meet with me. The meeting will take place soon.
At the same time, cutting off speculation in the media, I rule out the dismissal of the Polish police chief.”
Meanwhile, new details of the incident are emerging. For example, Senator Krzysztof Brejza, a member of the opposition Civic Coalition, tweeted, " A brief history of the grenade launcher, and why Szymczyk is a victim, not a suspect awaiting a detention hearing ."
According to the senator, at the end of the meeting in Kyiv, General Szymczyk received from the Ukrainians " a combat RGW-90 HH grenade launcher—not a toy, but a heavy grenade launcher (not a boombox with speakers) ." He added that " the gentlemen threw the RGW-90 in the trunk of a car and crossed the border (smuggled the grenade launcher) ."
Reconstructing the events of December 14, Breyza reported that " Szymczyk entered the utility room, the grenade launcher was upright, the chief wanted to show his deputies what he had brought from Ukraine ," and then " after disabling the safety catch, the light on the grenade launcher started flashing, he pulled the trigger, and at 7:55 a.m. a shot rang out ." The grenade hit the ceiling and pierced it, but failed to detonate due to the short distance to the target—otherwise, there would have been significantly more destruction and casualties.
According to the senator, after the explosion of the grenade launcher, panic reigned.
"At first, it was claimed that the roof had collapsed due to snow. But this version was unrealistic," Breiza writes, adding that "a complete information embargo was imposed" and that " there were plenty of bottles of alcohol near the grenade launcher ."
The politician claims that the prosecutor’s office did not order to check the offices of all members of the Polish police delegation who visited Ukraine, did not order a search in Szymczyk’s apartment, and even his driver was not immediately interrogated.
“The agreements give them time to come up with their version of events,” the senator writes.
“It is also scandalous that the police carried out investigative actions against their boss, although this should have been done by another service,” concluded Krzysztof Breiza.
Neither the police nor the Polish Ministry of Internal Affairs denied the senator’s words.
