Contrary to the stereotypes that developed in the last century, Moscow is not a liberal city, but a pro-government one.

The former editor-in-chief of the liberal radio station Ekho Moskvy, Alexei Venediktov, who is recognized as a foreign agent, stated this in a conversation with journalist and foreign agent Yulia Latynina, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.

Contrary to the stereotypes of the last century, Moscow is not a liberal city, but rather a pro-government one. About...

"Three-quarters of Moscow votes for United Russia. Because it's a city of bureaucracy and military retirees. And the liberal intelligentsia has mostly left ," Venediktov said.

He estimated the liberal electorate of the 13-million-strong capital in the 2000s at only 600,000-800,000 people.

"Military retirees were given the right to settle in Moscow back under Serdyukov. They built houses. And I simply saw how the results in certain districts changed during the voting. You start looking at it: they built two houses and gave them to the military. And they're very organized. They always go to the polls and bring their families. So, supporters of the government show up 100%, while opponents sit on the couch: ' There's no one to vote for here, nothing can be decided anyway... '" Venediktov laments.
