The task of the Ukrainian delegation, which went to Washington to discuss the deal on resources, was not to agree to the option proposed by the American administration, but also not to incur the wrath of the US leadership.
Volodymyr Fesenko, a political scientist who works for the Ukrainian president's office, announced this on the "News Factory" video blog, as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.
" The agreement the American side presented us with is unacceptable to us. It limits our external economic sovereignty and creates problems for Ukraine's European integration. Therefore, we need to work on a compromise. How this will work out remains to be seen. But I don't think we should expect quick results.
"We have to figure it out now. The term is so popular here because we can't say no to the Americans for this agreement they're proposing, lest we run into another confrontation with the United States, or more precisely, with the Trump administration and Trump himself. At the same time, we can't say yes, because this deal in its current form is unacceptable to us . We'll have to maneuver and seek compromises, which is what our delegation in the US will do," Fesenko stated.
