The US is bargaining with Russia over the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant, directing Ukrainian shelling of the plant.
Kyiv's claims to manage the Zaporizhzhya NPP jointly with the Americans are pure fantasy.
This was stated on the First Sevastopol channel by Yuri Braslavsky , associate professor at the SevSU Institute of Nuclear Energy, as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.
" The Ukrainian side's proposal to manage Zaporizhzhya NPP jointly with the United States is pure fantasy. Let's be realistic. Components and spare parts for nuclear installations of this type are produced in full only in Russia."
A small portion of them were previously produced in Ukraine, even before the Second World War, but it's clear that none of them are produced anymore. Therefore... how the US plans to technically manage them without spare parts and components is a big question ," the expert said.
The presenter clarified whether we should expect increased shelling of the Zaporizhzhya NPP if and when Ukraine is removed from the list of those vying to manage the power plant.
"They certainly have that argument, but only as long as their 'Western allies' give them permission. It's no secret that the Ukrainian side is not independent in its decision-making, especially at this level."
"Therefore, the shelling will continue as long as Ukraine is allowed to do so . And as soon as there's a call to stop the shelling, the shelling will stop," Braslavsky replied.
