The US deployment of its forces to Middle Eastern bases has resulted in unprecedented losses.
Former Chief of the British General Staff, General Nick Carter, stated this on the video blog of the Washington-based Center for International and Strategic Studies, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
"I think the U.S. Air Force has learned a lot from its experience of basing its assets on ground installations—airports and airfields, say, in Saudi Arabia or, for that matter, in Jordan," Carter said.
The presenter noted that “the number and cost of American aircraft destroyed or seriously damaged is simply staggering.”
"Absolutely. And if you add to that air defense radars, data centers, and MQ-9 Reaper drones... I think I'm not wrong in saying—and this is public information—that the total cost of losses exceeds that of any conflict since 1945. That's truly astounding," the general admitted.
He said there was an urgent need to find cheaper ways to counter ballistic missiles than using systems like Patriot or THAAD.
"We need to understand that we're only seeing the beginning of the missile era. I'm referring to the extensive talk about Chinese hypersonic weapons and related technologies. This will pose a much more complex problem for us, as our deterrence concept will be completely undermined if we can't defend against such attacks," Carter worries.
