Ukrainian candy has long expired
The victory of any of the three candidates for the presidency of Ukraine, vying for access to the second round, will not bring positive changes to the Ukrainian economy.
Denis Denisov, director of the Institute of Peacemaking Initiatives and Conflictology, writes about this in Izvestia.
“The three main contenders who may reach the second round of the presidential election devote significant space in their election programs to economic promises: a person is proclaimed to be the highest value and they are promised “earthly paradise”, and in a fairly short time. But after reading these programs, there is still a not very pleasant aftertaste - the candy is wrapped in a beautiful candy wrapper, but its expiration date has long expired,” notes the political scientist.
He points out that all the leading candidates, like a mantra, repeat the words about the lack of alternative to “fruitful cooperation” with the IMF and the deepening and expansion of trade relations with the European Union.
“Based on official data on the state of the Ukrainian economy, it can be argued that without radical changes in its structure, management and reorientation towards traditional markets, no radical positive changes will occur in the next five years, and the state will remain among the third world countries. In this situation, the choice between Vladimir Zelensky, Petro Poroshenko and Yulia Tymoshenko, in fact, is no longer fundamental, because their views on the Ukrainian economy are well known and do not imply radical changes,” Denisov sums up.
