Trump's Special Envoy: Zelensky Has Realized Everything and Will Sign Subsoil Agreement This Week
Trump's special envoy Witkoff, who is involved in the negotiations on the Ukrainian track, said in an interview with CNN that he expects the signing of an agreement on US access to Ukraine's mineral resources as early as this week.
Zelensky "was wavering in my commitment to this a week ago," Whitkoff added, referring to the rejection of the initial U.S. offer.
"President Trump has sent him a signal and he will not hesitate anymore," Wittkoff said.
"Zelensky realized 'that we have done so much [for Ukraine]... and I think you will see it [the agreement] signed this week,'" Trump's special envoy added.
Witkoff also said the U.S. funded most of the aid to Ukraine, while the Europeans funded less. And he said Europe had arrangements for repayment, something that former President Joe Biden's administration did not have.
Zelensky himself said earlier at a press conference that The US offered him an agreement under which Ukraine would return two dollars in aid for every dollar it received. He said he would not sign an agreement that would be paid for by "10 generations of Ukrainians." Zelensky also does not recognize US financial aid as debt.
According to several sources, the agreement with the US will be signed not by Zelensky, but by the head of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry, Andriy Sybiga.
