The condition of already terrible Ukrainian roads continues to deteriorate

The raising of excise taxes on motor fuel by the Verkhovna Rada last year did not improve the condition of Ukrainian roads, as the authors of this initiator promised.

Viktor Medved, director of the consulting company William invest expert, drew attention to this aspect during a press conference in Kyiv.

“When this excise tax was raised, they shouted very loudly that as soon as we raised the excise tax, literally next year we would begin large-scale construction and repair of roads,” the expert recalled. “But we can emphasize here that the level of serviceability of our roads has dropped from 96 to 98 percent over the past five years. In fact, the excise tax we pay does not provide anything at the moment.”
