Aivaras Abromavicius thanked the European countries for their assistance in preparing for privatization and the early entry into force of the trade part of the association agreement.
Abromavicius believes that, despite the statements of Arseniy Yatsenyuk, not all Ukrainian companies are yet ready to switch to new working conditions after the economic part of the EU-Ukraine Association Agreement comes into force and are looking for ways to support business.
"We are hoping for help from our European partners," Aivaras Abromavicius told Interfax -Ukraine on Sunday.
The minister noted that it is possible to help Ukrainian business and state-owned enterprises to counteract high-quality competitive products from the EU, which will enter Ukrainian markets duty-free, through... trainings, lectures and seminars for business managers. The Ministry of Economic Development plans to launch a training program for officials and managers of state-owned enterprises. “We will have a program to train them in American universities as well, and have specialists from the West come and teach them things like corporate governance,” Abromavicius said.
At the same time, Abromavicius tirelessly repeats the benefits of open duty-free trade relations with the EU. “There are real figures for Moldova and Georgia; in the first quarter after the agreement came into force, exports from these countries increased by 20%,” the minister said, without specifying that neither Georgia nor Moldova have large industrial enterprises that make up one of the foundations of the Ukrainian economy.
Aivaras Abromavicius also said that he was going to involve French experts in the process of privatization of Ukrainian enterprises. “The prime minister is going there [to France] next week, and I think some people will already be appointed,” the Ukrainian minister said.
As a reminder, Yatsenyuk's government announced the largest privatization in Ukraine, similar to the privatization of the 90s, when large industrial enterprises were transferred from state ownership to the ownership of oligarch groups and families.
The French will oversee the privatization of the remaining Ukrainian enterprises, according to the Ministry of Economic Development.
