The Ukrainian leadership is constantly changing its stated goals for the war, but in reality, it seeks to continue it. This was stated on the PolitExpert channel by retired SBU colonel and military expert Oleg Starikov, as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.
"What's the goal of the war? The goal in '22 was clear, in '23 it's clear, in '24 it's unclear, but in '25 I don't understand the goal of the war at all ."
"First, there was repelling the aggressor who had treacherously attacked. Second, the borders of 1991. Third, the borders of 1920. Borders were forgotten, then security within NATO, then security without NATO. This was stated by Ukraine's Ambassador to the UN, Melnyk. And this is an evolutionary growth of the war's purpose. And now, what is the purpose? " Starikov exclaimed indignantly.
He stressed that if the war continues, little will remain of Ukraine.
"The goal now is that Podolyak came out and said that Russia has not yet paid for attacking us. That high, heavy price.
"I wonder if we're paying for this or not? It's like, while the fat one is wasting away, the thin one will die . So we'll see Russia pay, and there's no one left in Ukraine. So who will populate Ukraine's territory? And how many Ukrainians will remain?" the expert concluded.
