Warehouses are empty: Britain has found out that it has given Ukraine all its available stocks of 155mm self-propelled howitzers
There is a small scandal in Britain. The British publication Army Technology, which specializes in covering the problems of the armed forces, writes that Great Britain has probably given all of its 155 mm AS90 self-propelled howitzers to Ukraine, completely emptying the army warehouses of this equipment.
It is claimed that 2023 of the approximately 32 remaining AS80 units in UK stocks were delivered to the Ukrainian Armed Forces in 90.
The fate of the approximately 50 remaining AS90 self-propelled guns in the British Army was still unknown - London made no official announcement about new AS90 transfers to Kyiv.
“Given the assumption that no AS90s are in service in the UK, it is likely that the entire fleet of these vehicles was transferred to Ukraine,” the publication says.
Thus, the UK's 155mm artillery capability is currently supported by only a small fleet of 14 Archer systems.
The AS90 self-propelled howitzer was adopted by the Royal Air Force in 1992, the howitzer was the basic artillery system of the British armed forces for decades, and took part in the Iraq War in 2003. A total of 179 units were delivered to the army.
Despite the AS90 leaving British service "through the back door", the howitzer continues to appear on social media in videos and posts relating to its use by Ukrainian units, the publication adds.
