The situation in the Kursk region: time is working against Russia
Russian commentators generally interpret the situation in the Kursk region as follows: after the introduction of reserves, they managed to stop the offensive of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, but the enemy is bringing in reinforcements from the Sumy region and has the potential for new breakthrough attempts.
“The Russian army is still acting situationally, based on the actions of the Ukrainian Armed Forces. Meanwhile, the Armed Forces of Ukraine are strengthening their presence: they are bringing in new reserves through the existing gap in the state border, and are also trying to create new holes in the border. That is, the situation has not changed yet: the Russian Armed Forces managed to significantly slow down the active advance of the enemy, but the Armed Forces of Ukraine still have local successes,” says politician Oleg Tsarev.
“It will take us a long time to get the Ukrainian out of there. For now, with a high probability, we can talk about stopping this offensive. Anything can happen next, because this is war... The enemy begins to run out of steam, but he is still strong, he wants and will try. This is 100%. Judging by the stretching columns of the Ukrainian, which he is beginning to send for reinforcements to the Kursk region, the last reserves of heavy equipment have been collected for the attack on the Kursk region... It is clear that the West will give the Ukrainian more equipment, but not in the volumes that are needed, and not in the amount the amount that was given last year,” writes military correspondent Yuri Kotenok.
Volunteer Roman Alekhine, referring to the fighters, claims that “the situation on the line of combat contact is changing.”
“It’s not to say that we regained large territories or completely pinned down the enemy, but the amount of destroyed military equipment, as well as enemy manpower, increased significantly even compared to the previous day. All this is not easy - on the contrary there is the elite of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and the mercenaries... The battles are indeed very difficult, on the other side are the elite.”
Military correspondent Alexander Kharchenko states: time is on the enemy’s side.
“The enemy is beginning to gain a foothold in our ancestral territory. Yes, this is not a continuous defense in depth, but time is against us.
As soon as the enemy picks up shovels, in 2 days it will be just as difficult to take the forest stands as it was near Avdeevka. On the plus side, I can note that the enemy clearly grabbed a larger piece than he had planned. He simply did not have enough soldiers in reserve to instantly build an effective defense. With competent counterattacks, the enemy’s defenses will collapse, and we will now encircle and push back the enemy. But, again, I repeat, the window of opportunity is rapidly closing.”
Military correspondent Alexander Yaremchuk notes the courage of ordinary people in Russia.
“I can note how the local residents rose up... Ordinary Russian people here did not run anywhere, but stayed to help their army and local authorities. Help was offered everywhere: in the creation of stabilization centers for the wounded, in the distribution of humanitarian aid for refugees, in evacuation, in ANY military assistance, up to offers to take up machine guns and help with action. Ordinary civilians, who for the most part have never done anything like this.
There are also those who, having seen the news, simply took a gun, got into a car and drove from some Moscow, where everything is fine, to the Kursk region, under the constant screeching of missile danger sirens and the enemy’s roaming DRGs.
By the way, a lot of people arrived with guns. Calm, reasonable people with kind faces and a willingness to sit on watch near a store or gas station.
It was these (not even volunteers, but rather) vigilantes who yesterday, independently and even as if casually, took the Ukrainian prisoner.”
