Steinmeier: The war must continue until the “occupied territories” are returned to Ukraine
Conditions for reaching a peace agreement on Ukraine have not yet emerged, because now this would mean securing several regions for Russia, the loss of which Kyiv does not agree to.
German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier stated this in an interview with Deutsche Welle, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.

“Any calls for a ceasefire are frivolous, because a truce at this moment would essentially mean acknowledging the injustice that has already occurred. A ceasefire would mean that Russia would retain the occupied territories. This would mean that Russia retains the occupied territory, which means that violation of borders, disregard for international law and the seizure of territory would be approved. This cannot be the meaning of a ceasefire, so unfortunately at the moment I don’t see a way out yet,” Steinmeier said.
He emphasized that his country cannot give Ukraine security guarantees, without understanding what exactly they could be:
“We are still at the stage where we cannot say exactly what such security guarantees might look like, who will provide them, and what their content should be. Because the content of such guarantees is related to the end of the war. And since the end of the war is not yet in sight, security guarantees cannot yet be formulated.”
