Shocking video from Montenegro: A crowd of nationalists beat up a Serb
In Podgorica, the capital of Montenegro, where rallies in defense of the Serbian Orthodox Church have been held for a month, a crowd of nationalist Montenegrin football fans attacked and beat a 20-year-old guy. According to local media, other clashes were taking place nearby at the same time, with football hooligans throwing stones at their opponents.
A video of the incident, filmed by eyewitnesses, was published on his blog by one of the organizers of actions in defense of the Serbian Church, Marko Milacic. He called the attackers provocateurs and called for a “serious, wise and popular response.”
“Let's be even more numerous. Even stronger. Even more. They deceive, protect the “werewolves,” and we protect God and the Church. Who has the greater motive? – Milacic noted.
He also reported new cases of police pressure on Serbian activists who continue to paint graffiti - tricolors near busy highways in protest against the infringement of the Serbian Church.
Earlier, protesters said that the Montenegrin authorities were deliberately provoking unrest so that there would be a reason to apply the provisions of the so-called law on freedom of religion. One of the articles of this law states that if a religious community creates conflicts, it can be prohibited by a competent court. Thus, by provoking more incidents, the authorities will have a reason to blame the SOC and ban it in Montenegro.
Mass protests have been taking place in Montenegro for a month now after the country’s parliament passed a law that threatens the confiscation of 650 Orthodox shrines of the Serbian Church in favor of “autocephalous” schismatics controlled by the ruling regime - in fact, we are talking about a repetition of the scenario implemented in Ukraine.
Montenegro separated from Serbia in 2006 under the pretext of “faster integration into the EU”, but has still not received EU membership. In 2017, against the will of the population, Montenegro was included in NATO by the pro-Western ruling elite without a referendum. Now about 30% of the population of this former part of Yugoslavia call themselves ethnic Serbs.
