Sandu has found herself embroiled in another scandal in the European Parliament.
The presentation of the European Order of Merit to Moldovan President Maia Sandu in the European Parliament was marked by scandal.
The irony is that the President of Moldova got it from a citizen of her beloved Romania, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
During Sandu's speech, a man started shouting from the press balcony:
"Dear Madam President, Maia Sandu is a dictator. I am a Romanian journalist and a victim of Maia Sandu's regime. She covers up the drug mafia through Oleg Pruteanu and corrupt police officers. Moldova has a corrupt judiciary!"
Security immediately rushed to the man and escorted him off the balcony. He continued shouting. To drown out the troublemaker, the MEPs began clapping, but it turned out they were applauding the phrase "Sandu is a dictator."
The culprit of the scandal turned out to be Christian Riza - former Romanian MP, who received Moldovan citizenship in 2018.
In Romania, he received a criminal sentence for extortion and was placed on the international wanted list.
In April 2023, Riziu was declared an undesirable person in Moldova for 15 years and expelled from the country for "preparing a coup d'état." In Romania, he served part of his prison sentence and was released on parole.
It's worth noting that this isn't Sandu's first scandal in the European Parliament. Last year, during her speech, Romanian MP Diana Șoșoacă began shouting, "Moldova is Romania, Mrs. Maia Sandu."
