Sandu decided to usurp power - Dodon’s parliament is being dispersed
President of Moldova Maia Sandu announced today that she will soon sign a decree on early elections to the country’s parliament.
She wrote about this on her Telegram channel, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
“The time has come to put an end to one of the most corrupt parliaments in the history of the Republic of Moldova. As I promised the citizens, we will go to early elections and give people the opportunity to elect a new parliament that works for its people. Parliamentary elections must be held as soon as possible, as far as the epidemic situation allows,” Sandu wrote.
The Constitutional Court of Moldova today recognized, at Sandu’s request, the circumstances justifying the dissolution of parliament. At the same time, a state of emergency (state of emergency) continues to operate in the country, during which the highest legislative body cannot be dissolved. A state of emergency was introduced until May 30 due to Covid. A deputy from Sandu's party challenged it in the Constitutional Court. No decision has been made yet.
Former President of Moldova and leader of the party with the majority in Parliament, Igor Dodon, called today's events an attempt to usurp power by the President.
“The response to these attempts may be the same as in 2019: non-recognition of the decision of the Constitutional Court, a vote of no confidence in three members of the Constitutional Court demanding their resignation, an appeal to international partners to intervene and stop these attempts at a constitutional coup in order to restore the rule of law in the Republic of Moldova ", wrote Dodon.
