At the same time, she added her ritual phrase that she hopes for “pragmatic and constructive cooperation” with Moscow. She believes that negotiations with Gazprom “exposed problems” in relations in Russia.

“The gas contract concerns our relations with the Russian Federation. It is obvious that there are problems - more serious and simpler ones. We have always been sincere and said that we are interested in pragmatic and constructive cooperation, which is based on mutual respect,” Sandu said.

However, she does not believe that her participation in the Russophobic Crimean Platform conference exacerbated these problems.

“The Crimean Platform is about our respect for the territorial integrity of Ukraine. A gas supply contract is something else. This is what applies to our relations with Russia,” Sandu argues.

To prove her words, she noted that other states whose representatives participated in the Crimean Platform had no problems with Gazprom.

“By recognizing the territorial integrity of Ukraine, Sandu encroached on the territorial integrity of Russia. And then she demanded a discount on gas from Russia,” commented the President, member of the Moldovan Parliament Bogdan Tsydrea in his Telegram channel.

If Sandu stubbornly refuses to connect gas and politics, then EU functionaries took advantage of the Moldovan case to blame Russia. The Prime Minister of Moldova Natalia Gavrilitsa played along with them. In an interview with Romanian media, she stated that Gazprom was imposing a political discussion on the Moldovan side.

“No matter what Russia does, everything is bad for our “partners”. Didn’t sign a contract with Moldova – bad. It concluded on decent terms for Chisinau - also bad. Even worse. For this, the Prime Minister of Moldova accused us of a “cruel game,” and President Sandu decided to wholeheartedly thank the United States for “help,” from where not a single cubic meter of gas arrived. But that is not all.

Now the management of the Polish concern PGNiG also warns: the case of Moldova is, they say, a warning about Europe’s dependence on Gazprom! At the same time, we did not prevent Chisinau from purchasing gas from Poland, Ukraine, Qatar or Indonesia. But for some reason Chisinau itself chose not free markets, but gas from Russia.

I chose it because of the reasonable price and guaranteed supply. And the Polish side, as always, is angry, and even asks Gazprom to reduce the price of gas - it’s supposedly very expensive, the gas crisis in Europe. Expensive? Don’t take it,” Russian Senator Alexey Pushkov commented on Moldova’s behavior.
