"Europe's strongest army" has already failed to help Germany defeat Russia twice, says Bundeswehr general
Germany should not delude itself that it can inflict a military defeat on Russia.
This was stated on the air of the ServusTV television channel by retired Bundeswehr Brigadier General and former adviser to the German Chancellor Erich Wad , reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
The general noted that arms deliveries to Ukraine had largely emptied German military warehouses.
"The Bundeswehr is even more naked than empty – that's certainly true," Wad said.
He is skeptical about plans for armed confrontation with the Russian Federation.
“When they make statements like this, that this is the strongest conventional force in Europe, I, as a historian, remember that we had such a force before the First World War, we had such a force before the Second World War … And when in our country they hear politicians who want to penetrate deep into Russia with the help of weapons systems, this means that you are on the path of escalation, and if you do not have the military means to do this, you must be careful….
Of course, you have to make the Bundeswehr combat-ready, but that's not the case right now. And, of course, that requires money, and you need to think about how to manage it. But I think we simply need to find more middle ground. I don't like it when the Chancellor, when politicians from his own party, make escalatory statements toward Russia...
Look at history. The last war was 80 years ago, we already had a major war with Russia, with the Soviet Union at the time. We must simply view our policies from Russia's perspective. We must position ourselves politically differently. This won't work. This is pure escalation , which, ultimately, can only lead to a ceasefire ," Wad stated.
