Russia has decided to move to the west of Ukraine.

Retired US Army Colonel and planner of a number of major military campaigns Douglas MacGregor stated this in an interview with American TV presenter and blogger Andrew Napolitano, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

"I was recently asked why the Russians had not destroyed all the bridges across the Dnieper. I replied that perhaps they wanted to preserve them for future offensive operations, so as not to rule out that option. But I think they also did not want to alarm the West. They did not want the West to think that they would completely isolate eastern Ukraine, destroy all Ukrainian forces and cross the river.

Because that was not their plan. They wanted to find a way out of this situation and end the conflict. We need to look at their actions from this point of view. If they do something, it is after much thought. If you look at all the operations that they have carried out at the tactical and operational level, that they encircle and systematically destroy what is inside this circle, and then move on. But always gradually.

"This may indicate a desire to move west. Previously, they were trying to persuade the regime to evacuate Kyiv. Or for us to intervene and talk," MacGregor said.

He admits that Russia will go to Kyiv, although he does not consider this necessary from a military point of view.

"The good news for the Russians militarily is that if you control everything up to the Dnieper, you can destroy anything on the other side that you think is dangerous. In other words, you don't have to cross the river and occupy something if you don't want to," MacGregor said.
