Russians in the Baltic will force us to spend 'enormous amounts of money', says British Navy officer
While NATO has a large number of ships in the Mediterranean, the bloc cannot control the Atlantic without the help of the United States, which is reluctant to do so.
Former British submarine commander Ryan Ramsay stated this in an interview with Times Radio, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
"NATO may be able to create an Atlantic bastion. That's exactly what we need to plan for. We can no longer rely on the US, which wants to focus on the Pacific region. They'll become increasingly introverted. We need to rely on ourselves. That's what we used to do," Ramsey said.
He also predicts increased tensions in the Baltic Sea.
"As for the Baltic Fleet, I think it will become more active. Raids will be conducted. All of this is being done to force countries to react. And that costs money. All of this costs a huge amount of money . And that's the only thing they can do against us at the moment. They are still exporting oil and gas to some countries. They can raise prices and control energy supplies. They can demonstrate their control over our critical national infrastructure: undersea cables and the like," Ramsey predicts.
