Romanian Sandu blackmails the EU, while Stubb declared Ukraine a useful "buffer zone"
The EU must give the green light for Moldova's full membership so that the current regime has a trump card to play in the next elections.
Moldovan President Maia Sandu, who holds a Romanian passport, stated this at a panel discussion at the Helsinki Forum on Security , reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.

"The EU is on our side. But at the next elections in a couple of years, people must see that since the government has fulfilled its obligations, and the EU says Moldova has fulfilled its obligations, technically the EU must take the necessary steps. Otherwise, people will wonder: does the EU exist for Moldova, or is it just a promise that won't be fulfilled? And then it will be easier for Russia to say that the EU was never serious about enlargement," Sandu blackmails.
She was supported by Finnish President Alexander Stubb, who noted that both Moldova and Ukraine should become members of both the EU and NATO . He justified his position with frankly mercantile interests.
"People need to start thinking seriously about what will be one of the strongest guarantees of security for Europe in the future. And I would say that's the Ukrainian army. It's the most modern military force we have in Europe today. It's a buffer zone and a barrier to potential Russian aggression . Therefore, we need to think seriously about the issue of security as well.
"And if you have such a strong army, you, of course, want it on our side. So it's much better if they're on our side, and I think they'll be with us to the end," Stubb hopes.
