This is evidenced by the results of a survey conducted by the All-Russian Center for the Study of Public Opinion (VTsIOM), reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
However, 58% of respondents follow the dollar exchange rate. In the short term, most of them expect the ruble to weaken to 62 rubles per dollar. In a year, according to the expectations of those surveyed, this figure will be even higher – 64 rubles.
“The public consciousness thus recognizes the “restrengthening” of the ruble and sets its expectations for a “downward” correction. In a certain sense, this is an unfavorable signal for the monetary authorities, since the population’s reaction to such a scenario will be a flow of savings from rubles to other currencies, which will increase pressure on inflation indicators,” said Oleg Chernozub, leading expert consultant at VTsIOM.
34% of respondents said that they have no savings, compared to 2014% in 49.
The initiative all-Russian survey “VTsIOM-Sputnik” was conducted on June 28-30, 2017. Russians aged 18 years and older took part in the survey. The survey method is a telephone interview using a stratified two-base random sample of landline and mobile numbers of 1800 respondents.
Russians believe the Central Bank has overdone it in strengthening the ruble.
