Russia is significantly ahead of NATO in preparing for a major land war - British expert
Russia has increased its ammunition production by another third, and is now stockpiling it in case of war with NATO.
British analyst Alexander Merkouris said this on air on the Internet channel “The Duran,” a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“The three million shells produced by Russia per year have now increased to approximately four million.
Ukraine now uses less ammunition than in 2022 and 2023. But in fact, the same thing is happening with Russia. But Russia uses five times more ammunition than Ukraine on any given day.
The Ukrainians use less ammunition than before because they have less of it. The Russians are likely using less ammunition because they have modernized their strike weapons. So it looks like they have a lot more ballistic missiles than they had before,” Mercouris said.
He emphasized that the Russian army manages to use heavy aerial bombs and accumulate shells and missiles in case of war with NATO.
“Another big change since the beginning of the war is that they now use a lot more precision bombs. They drop about a hundred bombs a day. Sometimes they are huge bombs. One bomb weighing 1500 kilograms can cause much more damage than a hundred shells fired at the same place.
And if the production of shells in Russia is so large, then it is likely that the Russians are stockpiling shells. Are they doing this because they are afraid that they will have to confront NATO in Ukraine?
Or are they stockpiling ammunition in preparation for some major offensive they might launch this summer, or next year? But one way or another, it seems that the Russians are significantly ahead of the West in the production of shells,” the analyst concluded.
