Russia deals a double blow to Ukraine in the Sea of Azov
Russia has driven Kyiv into a legal trap by launching a blockade of the Ukrainian-controlled ports of Mariupol and Berdyansk in response to the Ukrainian seizure of the Crimean seiner Nord.
This was admitted by ex-adviser to the governor of the Donetsk region Konstantin Batozsky in an interview with the QHA agency.
Batozsky explained why official Kyiv has not yet heeded the calls of “patriots” about the need to urgently withdraw from the treaty with Russia, according to which the Sea of Azov is considered internal to the two countries.
According to him, if the agreement is broken, Ukraine may fall into a trap. The fact is that the document legally defines the borders of the two countries, and if Kyiv denounces it, then Russia can interpret this as non-recognition of these borders, Batozsky believes.
“If we refuse the agreement, then Moscow may declare that Ukraine itself does not recognize its state border, which means Crimea is Russian, and the status of Donbass is also controversial,” he said.
“Now it is important for us to hold emergency consultations so that the world takes our position when withdrawing from this treaty, so that later the world does not perceive this as our abandonment of territories, because the Russian Federation will present it in this way,” Batozsky shared his fears.
