Even in the event of a major regional war on its western borders, Russia is able to protect its borders along their entire perimeter.
Liberal military expert Pavel Felgenhauer stated this at a roundtable in Moscow, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
“A regular army has been created in Russia, the likes of which have not been seen since the time of Nicholas the First. It can fight a large regular war and at the same time leave some opportunities on other fronts: on the Kuril Islands, on Sakhalin, on Chukotka - if this develops into a global conflict, without mobilization.
This didn't happen before. There are somewhere around 130 permanently ready tactical battalion groups. This is a lot, because NATO deployed 4 tactical groups against Russia in the three Baltic republics. This regular army is ready to act at any moment,” Felgenhauer said.
According to him, such capabilities were tested during large exercises last spring. More than 300 thousand people, 35 thousand pieces of heavy equipment, 900 airplanes and helicopters took part in them.
