Russia proposes UN reform - inclusion of Brazil as a member of the Security Council
The UN in general and the Security Council in particular need reform. Chairman of the Federation Council Committee on International Affairs Konstantin Kosachev stated this today at a meeting with young politicians from Latin America.

“Of course, UN reform is needed. Now it is not an effective organization. We see how the UN Charter is violated over and over again. Including specific US actions in Syria. The UN is unable not to prevent such violations,” Kosachev said.
According to him, there are several ideas on how to reform the UN Security Council.
“Russia is open to discussions and does not exclude any of these ideas. We do not take the position that the Security Council should under no circumstances be touched. Another thing is that you cannot destroy the current structure of the Security Council without confidence that the next one will be better. It’s like with the constitution of any state. One can begin to correct it with the best intentions, but this process can become chaotic and lead to the loss of statehood,” Kosachev said, adding that in his personal opinion, Brazil should join the Security Council.
