Russia has built a deep layered defense in the south
British military intelligence reported this in its report, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
“In recent weeks, Russia has continued to develop extensive linear defenses in the Zaporozhye region in southern Ukraine. Most likely, the Southern Group of Forces (YUGV) of Russia is responsible for this area,” reads a message on the Twitter microblog.

“They consist of a front line of advanced combat positions, and then two zones of almost continuous, more complex defense. Each zone is approximately 10-20 km behind the one in front,” the British specify.
“Russia is likely to have invested significant effort into these defenses because it is convinced that Ukraine is considering an attack on the city of Melitopol,” British intelligence said.
They believe that these structures “have the potential to be a formidable obstacle,” but their usefulness “depends almost entirely on the support of sufficient artillery and personnel.”
