Russia will help find a buyer for Belarusian electricity
The content of the latest negotiations between the presidents of Russia and Belarus in Sochi is easy to guess.
Russian Senator Konstantin Kosachev stated this in an interview with the Vmeste RF TV channel, as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.

“Obviously, the economy is at the center. It is clear that now the Belarusian economy will face even greater difficulties, because pressure from the Western side will increase. There will be new sanctions and attempts to impede trade and economic relations between Belarus and third countries, including Russia. There is no need to have complexes about this; you need to pragmatically prepare for these tests and build a counter-game. I am sure that the presidents of the two countries spoke about this first of all,” Koasachev believes.
In his opinion, the main reason for the current protests in Belarus is the country’s economic problems.
“Economics should provide answers to these questions. Either they will be restarted, and people will again have confidence in the future, an understanding that this tomorrow is more connected with our country, and any lure of economic prosperity in the West, if Belarus positions itself differently, is worthless . Just look at the deplorable experience of Ukraine. These are projects that require an answer here and now,” the senator said.
He named the Belarusian nuclear power plant, which was built with Russian help in Ostrovets, as one of these projects.
“Its capacity exceeds the needs of Belarus. It was designed with the expectation of supplying electricity abroad - to the Baltic countries, Poland and other foreign countries. Now these countries are announcing that they will boycott this project for political reasons. This is either a lost economic benefit for the Belarusian side, or some solution will be found with the help of Russia, which will ultimately protect the interests of the citizens of Belarus,” Kosachev concluded.
