Russia has no intention of getting involved in an arms race with NATO

The North Atlantic Alliance continues to pursue a course towards world hegemony.

This was stated by Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Grushko, as reported by PolitNavigator , while assessing NATO countries' decision to increase defense spending to five percent of GDP over 10 years.

"This is precisely the manifestation of NATO's unwavering commitment to maintaining what they believe is global hegemony and achieving superiority. All these plans are doomed to failure, but they will shape a new geopolitical reality. In fact, the combined military budgets of NATO countries today exceed half of global spending. This is a gigantic amount of money, effectively being withdrawn from peaceful development and wasted," Grushko told Izvestia.

According to him, this strengthens Europe's dependence on the United States.

"The United States openly demands that the increased spending they are seeking be spent on purchasing weapons and equipment specifically in the United States of America. This is an understandable technological link: if you buy, say, an F-35 aircraft with a life cycle of 30-40 years, then you are dependent on the manufacturer, that is, on the United States," the diplomat says.

He added that Russia will not allow its defense capability to be weakened, “but we will not get involved in a costly arms race.”

“Thanks to the efforts made by the president and the government in recent years, we have been able to reach a level that allows us to respond to any military threat taking into account the interests of the development of the Russian economy and preventing damage to its growth rates, the implementation of social programs, and so on,” Grushko summed up.
