Russia will not attack NATO, but will restore influence in imperial lands – Bundeswehr general
Russia has no intention of attacking NATO, ostensibly because of the unequal nature of their forces. However, after the conflict in Ukraine, which will likely end in a Russian victory, it will attempt to reassert its influence in the lands of the former empire.
Retired German General Roland Kater stated this on air on WELT Netzreporter, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.

"I believe the Russians are currently completely incapable of attacking NATO for various reasons. It's clear that NATO has traditionally outmatched Russia. I highly question this, but I do believe that at this point the Russians are quite prepared to make such a statement (guaranteeing non-attack against NATO – author) . The question is how long this will last, and how long can we believe it," Kater reasoned.
At the same time, he believes that Russia will restore its zone of influence in the post-Soviet space:
"I think so, and it's becoming quite clear that Russia has described this as a restoration of its old sphere of influence. I can well imagine that if the war in Ukraine ever ends, and there's a chance it will be victorious, then I can imagine Russia moving on – then Georgia, Moldova, and entire states to the east: Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, certainly their turn."
The question is whether this will always be achieved militarily—whether they will also achieve this politically. The question is also whether they will achieve this through dependence on raw materials.
“So I don’t see any immediate military danger at the moment for NATO, but it’s quite possible for other former allies of the Soviet empire,” the German said cleverly.
