The sanctions imposed by Russia against Ukraine are a mirror response that Kyiv has been asking for for several years.

Deputy of the State Duma of the Russian Federation Alexey Zhuravlev said this on the air of the “60 Minutes” program on the “Russia-1” channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

“We give a mirror answer because they force us to do it. Last year, trade turnover increased significantly. We invest eight times more in direct investment in Ukraine than its “best friend” America. And in May they hold their Security Council and begin to impose sanctions again,” Zhuravlev said.

As PolitNavigator previously reported, the Russian government is developing sanctions against Ukraine. As a result, a presidential decree should appear on sanctions against several hundred individuals and legal entities of Ukraine. By August 1, ministries must submit “proposals on goods imported from Ukraine, in respect of which restrictive countermeasures may be applied.”
