Russian political scientist: Donbass does not demonstrate unity like Crimea, so Moscow is in no hurry
Moscow - Kyiv, May 14 (Navigator, Mikhail Ryabov) - Donbass does not demonstrate the same unity as Crimea before and after the referendum, so Moscow is in no hurry to take a clear position regarding the future of Donetsk and Lugansk.
This opinion was expressed to Navigator by Russian political strategist Oleg Matveychev, professor at the Higher School of Economics, ex-employee of the Presidential Administration of the Russian Federation, author of the books “Ears Waving a Donkey” and “American Lard.”

“Let the DPR at least adopt a Constitution and elect government bodies, elect a parliament and so on, subjugate the police, create an army, and improve the economy. In Crimea, the entire parliament and government were on the side of Russia. Here in the DPR, what are the deputies saying? The authorities still don’t know where. Dual power! And in Crimea there is unanimity! Let the people strangle the elites. Let the people drive Taruta out. Let him take everything from Akhmetov if he himself does not want to take the side of the people he is exploiting,” said the agency’s interlocutor.
Matveychev believes that Moscow will decide on the future of Donbass “not in the near future.”
“Maybe before the end of the year. If Kyiv pursues a policy of pressure and uses the army, and does not urgently agree to federalization and a new Constitution, then first the DPR may follow the Transnistrian option, and then the Crimean one,” the expert predicts.
