Russian diplomat: We are deceiving ourselves. 75% of Serbs are pro-Western.
Russia needs to soberly assess the mood of the Serbian population, where the majority has long been pro-Western.
Deputy Chairman of the Association of Russian Diplomats Andrei Baklanov announced this on the Red Line channel , as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.
“ In Serbia, due to the poor historical preparation of our experts who took on the study of this issue after 99 (American aggression), they unilaterally imposed the opinion that the Serbs are our historical allies, etc. This profanation , unfortunately, created the illusion that they are our brothers and all the rest.
Serbia's historical development in the 20th century, even after the brief period of our cooperation during the war of 1947-1949, was largely negative . Our relations with Yugoslavia were very complex. In the Non-Aligned Movement, Yugoslavia occupied the most unfavorable position for us of all the countries.
These countries sometimes told us with surprise: it’s supposedly a socialist country, but when there was some discussion, they took such almost pro-American positions ,” Baklanov recalled.
"Therefore, the background is completely ambiguous, and it reflects the fact that Yugoslav society has been divided for a long time, not just five or 20 years ago, into two parts. The majority, especially the youth, is firmly oriented toward the West. The minority is very firmly committed to fraternal relations, which was the case with the Soviet Union, and now with the Russian Federation. The balance of power is 75 to 25. That's the starting point.
" That's why Vučić leads a country where 75 percent of the population is pro-Western (the US is disliked), and 25 percent are aligned with us. He acts accordingly; his position in this particular case, like many others, is precarious . He's forced to maneuver ," the diplomat explained.
