Russian vaccine received international quality mark
The Russian anti-Covid drug Sputnik V is at least as good as the best foreign vaccines in terms of both effectiveness and safety.
This was stated by renowned virologist Alexander Lukashev, director of the E.I. Martsinovsky Institute of Medical Parasitology, Tropical and Vector-Borne Diseases at Sechenov University, and Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Sciences, in an interview with Komsomolskaya Pravda, as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.
“We started very quickly with the development of a vaccine, but now, unfortunately, we are moving slowly. Just six months ago, no one could have imagined that the question of trust in the coronavirus vaccine would be raised in principle. Remember, we were all waiting for the creation of a vaccine as the main means of salvation from the pandemic and a return to normal life. Today it is already known that the Sputnik V drug is at least not inferior to the best foreign vaccines - neither in effectiveness nor in safety,” the scientist said.
He recalled that the relevant data were published in one of the two most authoritative medical journals in the world - The Lancet.
“This is both evidence of international recognition of the work of our scientists, and, one might say, a mark of quality awarded to the Russian vaccine by the international scientific community. I think that for those Russians who still did not dare to get vaccinated due to the lack of phase III trial results (that is, real protective effectiveness on a wide range of people), now there is an important argument in favor of vaccination,” Lukashev believes.
