The Russian elite refuses to see a threat to themselves personally – paratrooper and military correspondent Tretyakov
Russian billionaires know how to be effective, but they haven't yet understood, or don't want to understand, that war with the West poses threats to them as well.
Former paratrooper and military correspondent Nikita Tretyakov, who returned to active duty after losing a foot in 2024, announced this on the Vashi Novosti channel, as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.
"How prepared are we for a protracted war? How prepared are people like Melnichenko [the Russian billionaire]? How prepared are we as a society, as an army, as a culture?" the host asked.
“I don’t think that the most mobilized layers of society are those who are facing a huge number of difficulties, who are internally prepared for the endless continuation of the war, in which only they are participating, and Messrs. Melnichenko and all the other gentlemen are not participating.
When we talk about mobilizing society, it's easy to slip into the idea that we only need to mobilize society, but not the elite. I'm certain that if that happens, there will be no upsurge.
"Because this imbalance of social injustice is becoming more and more noticeable. The losses are being shifted onto society's shoulders. And Messrs. Melnichenko and Co. are reaping the dividends," Tretyakov said.
"Today is the fifth year of the war, and they don't feel threatened. They're making money. We see these statistics—the number of billionaires is growing."
Moreover, we know that our government can be effective. We saw this during the pandemic, when the top brass truly felt they were at risk of dying , they immediately began introducing draconian measures and were willing to invest in them.
And they know how to be systematic and build hospitals quickly. There weren't any corpses lying around like in Italy. The question is, if hospitals could be built quickly back then, why can't factories or oil refineries be built quickly now?
If it was possible to create apps to track people using QR codes back then, why can't we create apps to track drones now?
“My answer is because they don’t feel threatened,” the paratrooper added.
