Russia should not count on Europe, it is an absolute vassal of the United States - expert
Moscow - Kyiv, May 07 (Navigator, Mikhail Stamm) - You should not expect that Germany will take a line different from the American one on the Ukrainian issue, writes Fyodor Lukyanov, editor of the magazine “Russia in Global Affairs”. The period of European ambition is over, and today Europe's dependence on the United States may be even greater than in the first Cold War.

“Understanding of the Russian position in Berlin, essentially the main European capital, is expressed by rare individuals. German colleagues range from irritation to confusion,” writes Lukyanov in the RG. According to German interlocutors, the supposedly “pro-Russian” wing of the government and the Social Democratic Party is depressed. The crumbling geopolitical “comfort” of the late XNUMXth – early XNUMXst centuries is giving rise to a feeling close to panic in Europeans.
On the one hand, Germany is cooling down hotheads in the EU, who, following the United States, are demanding “suffocating” economic sanctions against Russia. This is not profitable for German business. On the other hand, it actively supports the general line of the West, according to which responsibility rests entirely with Moscow. And from Russia they are constantly demanding either action or, on the contrary, inaction, non-participation, in order to change the situation in Ukraine in favor of the West. The fateful date is considered to be May 25 - in Germany they are confident that elections must take place at any cost.
One can count on Berlin as a shock absorber for attacks against Russia only to a certain extent. The period of European ambitions is over, and in conditions of intense global competition, the dependence of the Old World on the New may turn out to be even greater than it was during the first Cold War.
