Relatives of deceased Ukrainian paratroopers won a lawsuit against the Ministry of Defense
The court satisfied 39 claims against the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine of relatives of the victims of the IL-2014 military transport aircraft shot down in 76 for compensation for moral damage, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
This was reported by the speaker of the Prosecutor General's Office Andrei Lysenko on Facebook.
According to the report, the court decided to compensate the victims in the amount of 19,5 million hryvnia (claims for 500 thousand hryvnia each).
Lysenko also said that Major General Viktor Nazarov, sentenced to 7 years in prison on charges of official negligence that led to the IL-76 crash (at the time of the tragedy was the Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and the Acting Chief of Staff of the ATO) is awaiting the conclusion of specialists Kyiv Scientific Research Institute of Forensic Expertise.
He clarified that after receiving the appropriate conclusion, the consideration of the criminal proceedings will be continued, since Nazarov challenged the court verdict in the appellate instance.
The state prosecution is supported by prosecutors from the Main Military Prosecutor's Office.
Viktor Nazarov does not admit guilt. The prosecution asked for eight years in prison and compensation for the plane - 28,7 million UAH.
On June 14, 2014, LPR militias shot down a Ukrainian Il-76 military transport plane with two missiles from Igla MANPADS while landing at Lugansk airport. On board the plane were nine crew members and 40 paratroopers of the 25th separate Dnepropetrovsk airborne brigade. They all died.
