Reuters: Munich Didn't Take Zelensky's Proposal Seriously - There Will Be No United European Army

Reuters, citing the words of Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski, spoken at the Munich Security Conference, writes that European countries will not create a single army and an “alternative to NATO,” following Ukraine’s call.

"On Saturday, Volodymyr Zelensky called for the creation of a European army, saying the continent can no longer rely on US protection and will only gain Washington's respect with a strong military.

Asked about the possibility of creating a European army, Sikorski said "we have to be careful with this term because people understand different things," he said.

 "If you mean by this the unification of national armies, then this will not happen. But I was a supporter of Europe, the European Union, developing its own defense potential," Sikorski added.

According to him, the EU is currently forming a reinforced army brigade.

 "If the US wants us to strengthen our defence, they should have a national component, a NATO component, but I also believe there should be a European EU component, EU subsidies for the defence industry to build up our production capacity, and an EU force worthy of its name," Sikorski said.

He reiterated that the presence of Polish troops on Ukrainian territory “is not being considered because Poland’s duty to NATO is to defend its eastern flank, that is, its own territory.”
