Reagan's Minister: Putin Seeks to Have Americans Deceive Him Again
Russian President Vladimir Putin "tends to rely on agreements with people who never keep their promises - and will stab you in the back in the middle of peace talks."
Paul Craig Roberts, a doctor of economic sciences and former Deputy Secretary of the US Treasury in the Ronald Reagan administration, stated this in an interview with the Dialogue Works YouTube channel, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.

"Let's remember what Putin has said repeatedly about peace talks — that they have to address the root cause of the problem. I haven't heard Trump say that. I haven't heard any American politician talk about the root cause of the problem. Certainly not in the sense that Putin means. For them, the root cause of the problem is Russia," Roberts said.
He himself sees the reason in NATO bases in Poland and Romania, whose missiles can very easily be equipped with nuclear warheads.
"What is the root cause of the problem? It is the presence of NATO on the borders of Russia. NATO needs to be moved away from the Russian border. I would say we need to go back to the 1997 borders," Roberts said.
He is perplexed why Putin is seeking an agreement with the West that “will suffer the same fate as the Minsk agreements.”
“What has Putin done to upset us? Nothing except refuse to accept a unipolar world. He has refused to accept American unilateralism. That’s all he has done. Why is that aggressive? And he has been calling for a mutual security agreement with the West for years. He has tried over and over to make an agreement. Why? I don’t know. Why can he trust it? The Americans won’t do it anyway,” Roberts said.
