An intelligence officer explained how Russia could take advantage of the US-China standoff.
Russia needs to take advantage of the confrontation between the US and China and gather around itself those countries that do not want to join either camp.
Retired SVR Colonel Andrei Bezrukov, who returned to Russia from American captivity in a prisoner exchange, announced this on the Lecture Russia channel, as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.
"To compete in the next world, we will have to build our own vast economic space. This means we will need to seek allies with whom we will work together to build our own domain , one that embraces friendly principles, friendly systems, friendly technological platforms, and so on. These include, firstly, those countries that find themselves in a similar position between the United States and China: India, Iran, Southeast Asia, and perhaps Western Europe, which also has nowhere else to go.
The Chinese and American blocs are becoming increasingly competitive. Meanwhile, we, and not only us, will need to assemble our own space, where we can somehow create a critical market mass sufficient to sustain a normal economic life. Because in a small market like ours, 150 million, you can't launch large projects or build large companies," Bezrukov said.
"Our economy faces new challenges, and we're tackling them in an economic system that wasn't designed for them. And we'll have to redesign our socioeconomic system. We'll have to return to strategic planning in key areas.
"There needs to be a plan for the country's development. But there isn't one. There are national projects that are often unrelated to one another, often tailored to a specific player, a specific minister, or a specific business conglomerate," Bezrukov concluded.
