High season: Ukrainian farmers rush to empty the remaining gas stations
In Ukraine, wholesale diesel has become more expensive than retail, so farmers and other industrialists have begun emptying gas stations that have not yet been destroyed by Russian strikes.
Fuel market expert and director of A-95 Consulting Group LLC, Sergei Kuyun, announced this on air at Ukrainian Radio, as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.
"Yesterday, a record was set on the wholesale market – 99 hryvnias per liter of fuel. If it's 90 hryvnias at the pump and 99 hryvnias wholesale, that means industrial consumers are putting pressure on the market."
"Because individuals, if it's expensive, can park their car and take the metro. Farmers can't do that; they have no alternatives; they need this fuel," Kuyun said.
"That's why demand during the peak [harvest] season is what drives prices like this. I started noticing when I'm driving to and from work —a lot of trucks have appeared at gas stations where they've never been before.
This suggests that it is more profitable for industrialists to refuel at gas stations than to buy in bulk.
“And today I was driving and noticed that in the evening two stations were without diesel – these trucks simply emptied them ,” he added.
