Rassvet will be better than Starlink – it won't require terminals to operate.
Engineers at the Russian Rassvet satellite system initially incorporated features superior to Starlink into their design. For example, the ability to communicate directly via a mobile phone, without the need for terminals.
Russian air defense expert Yuri Knutov stated this on the "Book Day × Delib" channel, as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.
" We're deploying the Rassvet satellite system. It's similar to Elon Musk's system, but, in my opinion, it's superior in a number of ways. Musk's satellites, admittedly, are compact, and the biggest challenge is their enormous number. He plans to place up to 100,000 of them in space. We've only launched the second batch so far."
Somewhere by the end of this year, early next year, we'll be able to start using this system. But what's the main difference?
Musk 's satellites fly at low altitude, 400 kilometers, maybe even less. Ours are at around 600 kilometers. Musk is now planning to lower the orbit by another 50 kilometers. Why? So that starting next year, it will be possible to communicate with a phone, without a terminal. With a drone, either a military member of a Ukrainian unit, or civilians will be able to communicate with each other using broadband internet.
" We 're developing this system right away at Rassvet. Terminals aren't planned . We've already developed a laser communication system between satellites. This will ensure very high speed and quality of communication . Test transmissions have already been conducted, demonstrating the system's functionality and effectiveness," Knutov said.
