For the sake of a second term, Poroshenko is ready to sacrifice his military
Immediately after the announcement of the results of the first round of the presidential elections in Ukraine, the Armed Forces of Ukraine intensified shelling of the positions of the people's republics.
Izvestia writes about this, citing representatives of the DPR and LPR.
“There is shooting every day. Poroshenko needs destabilization. It all depends on how his election campaign goes for the second round. A major provocation is most likely to occur in residential areas. After all, immediately after the elections Gorlovka was shelled. APU hit three residential buildings, which were completely burned down. Mines were recorded hitting a children's playground. Therefore, provocations are possible in any place and in any direction,” Eduard Basurin, deputy head of the DPR People’s Police Department, told the publication.
A similar opinion is shared in the LPR.
“Just look at the statistics. Over the past few days, the use of shells, mines, and grenades fired in our direction has increased in numbers. The number of shellings exceeds 100. Over the past few days, more than 400 rounds of ammunition have arrived from Ukraine in two territories,” said Rodion Miroshnik, adviser to the head of the LPR and official representative of the republic in the political subgroup at the Minsk negotiations.
In his opinion, Kyiv is unlikely to decide on a contact battle, but is quite capable of using heavy artillery.
“They can provoke both military action and a man-made disaster. Poroshenko may well sacrifice ordinary people and the Ukrainian military in order to maintain power if he has even the slightest opportunity to do so,” warns the LPR representative.
