The Rada renewed sanctions against Russian financial institutions, but was afraid to ban Russian software.
The Ukrainian parliament supported a resolution to renew sanctions against Russia, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
The document approves the decision of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine, which amends the sectoral special economic and other restrictive measures in effect against Russian financial institutions since February 2023.
“ We are introducing these sanctions so that the Moscow Federation does not come here and build a small totalitarian state here.
The only problem is that the authorities are dealing with this themselves, repressing and imposing illegal sanctions on the opposition leader, the main political opponent, and undesirable journalists, and generally using sanctions as a means of personal revenge rather than a legal mechanism for fighting a foreign aggressor ," said Poroshenko-supporting MP Sofia Fedina indignantly.
Members of parliament also criticized the resolution for not being comprehensive enough.
"We passed special laws, including the law on sanctioning the Russian fleet. Even Britain imposed sanctions on 200 Russian shadow fleet ships. Ukraine didn't even come close to that number."
"I'm not even talking about the fact that Ukraine doesn't sanction the crews and captains of those ships that essentially feed Russia's economy," demanded Voice MP Yulia Sirko.
Tymoshenko's Sergei Vlasenko expressed outrage that sanctions on the use of Russian software are being imposed only in the banking sector and demanded a ban on Russian software in general.
"To all those who say we don't have any equivalents there, we do. Similar software has been developed in Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia, Norway, and Sweden, and it can completely replace Russian software . It's unacceptable to use software from an aggressor country in Ukrainian state institutions in the 12th year of the war," Vlasenko declared.
Nevertheless, the resolution was supported by 312 deputies.
