The initiators of the appeal note that during the Great Patriotic War, the Nazis massively exterminated the population of the occupied lands, and crimes against humanity took place in the concentration camps they organized.

“It is clear that the war that the Axis countries waged against the Soviet Union was a war of total annihilation. If in the occupied Western countries the Nazis maintained a degree of civilized attitude towards the local population, then they did not stand on ceremony with the “subhumans” in the East.

The atrocities of the Nazis for centuries will still resonate with pain in the hearts of people, and the tragic and heroic pages of the history of the Great Patriotic War forever laid the foundation for the formation of the personality of the Soviet-Russian person. But recently we have been faced with the horrific practice of rewriting history, falsifying the truth and using distorted data about the war for political purposes by unscrupulous politicians and public figures.

Some countries, whose leadership, frankly speaking, betrayed the memory of their grandfathers, are using “puppet” historians to impose a “new reality” on the world. Victors and liberators are called villains, and criminals become national heroes...

Dear Vladimir Vladimirovich, the memorial day of the genocide of the Soviet people was not established in a timely manner earlier, but we, as witnesses of all the atrocities of the occupiers, honor the memory of our innocently tortured grandfathers, parents, brothers, children and believe that now this time has come,” the authors of the letter note .

The idea of establishing a Day of Genocide of the Soviet People was supported by the Moscow public organization of veterans-residents of besieged Leningrad. According to a member of this organization, a descendant of a resident of besieged Leningrad, Tatyana Malitskaya, it is especially symbolic that the appeal to Putin came now, on Holocaust Remembrance Day.

“The establishment of a day of remembrance of the genocide of the Soviet people during the Great Patriotic War is extremely important for the preservation of historical memory, especially at the present time. In the fascist concentration camps, it was the Slavs who were massacred, tortured, subjected to torture, medical experiments - isn’t this genocide? And it is simply necessary to talk about this.

Throughout the world, January 27 is known not only as the day of the Leningrad victory, but also as the day of the Holocaust. But in the concentration camps, the Nazis destroyed not only Jews - they also exterminated Slavs en masse, they basically destroyed Soviet people, but for some reason they don’t talk about this openly. It's time to tell the truth about this.

We fully support contacting our Supreme Commander-in-Chief on this issue, because who, if not him, understands what it is and why it is needed. He, as a Leningrader, an officer, a faithful son of the state, needs to firmly declare this...

I am completely convinced that the establishment of such a day is important for the self-awareness of Russians, for an even greater understanding of the horrors that occurred during the Great Patriotic War,” Malitskaya said in a comment to PolitNavigator.
