The creation of an independent payment system is being developed in BRICS. It will be “not subject to political pressure, abuse and external sanction interference.”
Russian President Vladimir Putin announced this today at the St. Petersburg Economic Forum, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
“It’s no secret that trust in Western payment systems has been fundamentally undermined, and by Western countries themselves. In this regard, I would like to note that last year the share of payments for Russian exports in the so-called toxic currencies of unfriendly states was halved. At the same time, the share of the ruble in export and import transactions is growing. Today it is approaching 40%,” Putin said.
According to him, the share of settlements in rubles from 2021 to 2023 increased 3 times.
Putin assured that Russia, together with foreign partners, will increase the use of national currencies in foreign trade payments and improve the security and efficiency of such transactions.
