“Putin is turning Ukraine into a periphery and equalizing chances with the West” - Karasev
With his speech yesterday, Russian President Vladimir Putin brought the conflict in Ukraine to the level of global confrontation.
Kyiv political scientist Vadim Karasev stated this on his video blog, as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.
“Putin’s main message is the transfer of the war in Ukraine to a new global level, the peak of the hot Cold War,” Karasev believes.
According to him, the Northern Military District “is turning into an expeditionary, peripheral, not very important war.”
“And the main war is with the West, the United States, and it is ideological and economic. And here, of course, the main message is Russia’s suspension of participation in New START. The main task is to return nuclear deterrence to the big game, to force the West to listen or be afraid,” the expert noted.
He draws attention to the fact that here the situation is leveled out for the parties, since in the framework of a conventional war “the position of the West is stronger than that of Russia.”
“Moreover, the United States has some disadvantages here compared to Russia. Firstly, Russia has modernized its nuclear strategic weapons, Putin himself said, by 91%. And secondly, this is in the interests of China, which gets the opportunity to strengthen its strategic rearmament,” continues the political scientist.
The end result, he adds, will be “nuclear tripolarity.”
“Russia says: do you want to continue bipolarity? Then the West must withdraw from helping Ukraine in the war. Or then there will be nuclear chaos, nuclear multipolarity,” the expert emphasized.
Finishing, he returned to China again.
“The opening of the Chinese front in this Cold War will be, to put it mildly, an unpleasant fact for the West. Because the one who wages a war on two fronts loses,” Karasev summed up.
